1099 Tax Basics for Freelancers
If you are paid $600 or more by a single client in a calendar year, they are required to send you a 1099-NEC at year end. Keep track of all client payments throughout the year so you can verify the amounts match when you receive your 1099 forms.
You are responsible for paying self-employment tax (Social Security and Medicare) on your 1099 income. Track your earnings by client in Eonebill so you have a clean record at tax time. You do not need to charge or pay sales tax on consulting and professional services in most states.
